As part of our 40th-anniversary celebrations this autumn, Shaw Trust is running an art exhibition for care-experienced young people.
The Children and Families Division is organising an art exhibition for care experienced young people either accommodated in, supported by, our services or living or educated in an area in which we deliver services.
Young people across our services are invited to submit a piece of art they have created (this can be a variety of art styles, including fine art, graphics, photography, 3D). Colleagues across the Trust who are care experienced are eligible to submit artwork too.
The term ‘care-experienced’ refers to anyone who has been or is currently in care or has been fostered at any stage in their life, no matter how short – including kinship care. We are also accepting entries from individuals who have experience of family members adopting, or fostering young people.
The theme for their artwork is “My Inspiration” – who or what inspires me? Show us what this means to you!
Where is the competition and what will be exhibited?
The exhibition will take place at The Foundling Museum in London, where a minimum of 30-40 pieces of artwork will be on show. This artwork will be accompanied by a book featuring 100 pieces of artwork. This will include those exhibited at the Foundling, and others that have been judged as meeting the criteria/standard necessary for inclusion in the book/online gallery.
How to enter the competition
The deadline date for submissions of artwork is 15 October 2022. All submissions must be A4 size and scanned across on a high-quality/high-resolution scanner/digital equipment to Julie.carter@prospects.co.uk.
Anyone submitting a piece of art must include their name, age, contact details and whether they wish to be contacted by the media. We are keen that all entrants provide a paragraph on why, as a person with experience in the care system, the image they have created inspires them.
Prizes will be awarded to young people/colleagues whose artwork is selected for the exhibition and inclusion in the book/online gallery.
Successful entries will receive a £50 amazon voucher.
Why an art exhibition?
This is an opportunity to celebrate 40 years of Shaw Trust and the lives and achievements of care-experienced people we work for and with every day.
Young people will be involved in the co-production of all aspects of the project as influencers, members of the reference group, and as judges and hosts.
