Building confidence with Thrive into Work

Photo of a man and woman talking

A young person recently got in touch with our Thrive into Work service to gain support with their overall wellbeing and job hunting. This is what they said:

“While dealing with the stress and pressures of upcoming exams and looking for work, a friend introduced me to Thrive into Work.

As a young adult I was experiencing numerous worries and uncertainties regarding my future, such as self-financing my studies and finding part time work. I was also experiencing stress and anxiety of dealing with my newfound responsibilities of being a young adult

My Employment Specialist helped build my confidence and take both accountability and responsibility in achieving my goals. A major barrier of mine alongside my anxiety was the inability to prioritise my problems so that they can be overcome. My Employment Specialist helped me to build the skills necessary to overcome many of these underlying problems.

While I remained busy with attending my exams, my Employment Specialist helped with editing my CV, looking up job vacancies, speaking to employers and arranged appointments to attend online company recruitment briefing sessions. Her mentoring helped me to relax and focus on one issue at a time.

To help prepare me for a face-to-face interviews, my Employment Specialist did mock interviews with me alongside written answers to practice for interviews. She supported me with travel timetables and sourcing suitable interview clothing, all of these actions helped me relax, focus and feel confident, enabling me to secure a job offer.

I receive ongoing support from my Employment Specialist to support me in staying employed. Discussing any issues/anxieties that I have in the workplace. She helps me to articulate these concerns to my employer in a way which encourages open communication and action.

I am still young and sometimes feel nervous of making mistakes however, my supervisor at work appreciates the work I do and makes me feel as though my input is valid!”
