For the last month one of our homes in Nottinghamshire has been getting a garden redesign as the building materials from the Savills Plot to Plate Chelsea Flower Show Silver Gilt winning exhibition garden have been transported from London up the M1.
The donation was made possible following a meeting with Chris Luck, and has been in the planning for more than nine months. But now, fully planted and repurposed by garden landscaper, Gillian Goodson, the children living in the home are taking full advantage of the play equipment and the tranquil spaces.
While initially concerned they might have to give up their football pitch, the young people were involved in deciding the final location, and the Chelsea garden is now the first thing that greets visitors and residents to the home.
Alongside Savills donation of the garden, and auctioning of the garden seat from Chelsea for £5,000, Gillian Goodson pulled in favours from local nurseries that donated additional plants and features, and upcycled branches from trees removed and pollarded at the site to create a den and bug hotel.
The home team also received donated hoses and sprinklers from their local B&Q branch to keep the garden in tip-top condition.
What difference does a garden make?
“Talking about the new garden, deputy manager, Amy Foster, commented: “It’s more than a garden for the kids, it’s someone investing in them and it’s fantastic to see them already enjoying the garden and using it. They sit outside and eat, relax by the water feature and somersault on the trampoline.”
