When Laura joined the JETS programme she lacked confidence as her independent job search had been unsuccessful. She needed reassurance that she would eventually achieve her aim of gaining employment. Laura was looking for an assistant manager role within a retail setting as she had previous experience in this area.
Laura’s employment adviser went through her CV and suggested it would be a good idea to do some courses to set her apart from other candidates. Laura completed four management courses with the Digital College. Laura’s adviser also encouraged her to review and update her CV for each application.
The Salvation Army, working in partnership with Shaw Trust, were offering participants on the JETS programme training and mentoring sessions. Laura was referred to this and benefited from the sessions. She learnt how to answer interview questions more effectively and became more comfortable with virtual interviews.
Following the training, she applied for an assistant manager role with Charlotte Tilbury and was invited for an interview. With the support of her employment adviser, Laura did a mock interview session and practiced a presentation she was asked to do.
Laura’s employment adviser said:
“I reaffirmed after each stage how well she had done in the application process.”
After completing three interview stages, Laura was successful in her goal of securing the assistant manager job at Charlotte Tilbury.
On being offered the role, Laura said:
“I wanted to get the job so that I could repay the faith my adviser had in me!”
