Marking the International Day of Charity

Close up photo of man with curly hair, sat outside smiling.

Charity is the heart of us.

Shaw Trust began as a small charity finding employment for disabled people in 1982. Today, we are a national charity that remains committed to finding good employment as a core pathway to a better life.

This International Day of Charity, we’re reflecting on some of our successes from 2021/22. Overall, we’ve supported 335,000 people. That includes 64,539 unemployed people, 98,000 young people, 1,047 people trained in better mental health and resilience, 1,418 people supported by our CFO Activity Hubs, and many more people assisted to find and secure good employment.

We put the needs and the voice of our participants first when we develop our work. Thinking holistically we use our experience and expertise to find new and better ways to benefit the people we support.

And we’re proud to do this as a charity.

That means we can invest in pilot projects to inform policy work, with the goal of being systems change agents, creating a better future for our participants. We can focus on creating and driving social value – value that goes beyond financial profit, supercharging communities.

We can make sure our children have homes that are safe and supportive, in a way that the system can’t always achieve.

Today marks the importance of supporting and being supported by charity.
